The variety, abundance and quality of the restaurants in our area rival those of most any other region of the country. Each of our locally owned independent restaurants has its own personality, many times reflecting that of the owner or chef. When you dine at one of our STIR Affiliated Restaurants you can feel the heart and soul of the owner and chef. Oftentimes recipes are handed down from generation to generation. Some of our STIR Affiliates have been in business long before Julia Child brought cooking to television and others are quite new, often bringing us creative and exciting culinary options. But one thing remains constant. The folks who own and operate our local restaurants are our neighbors. Their incomes stay here, they pay taxes here and they support our churches, charities and community events.
In addition to promoting our locally owned independent restaurants we’re reaching out to other local food related organizations. For example, we host semi-annual Tasting and Demonstration Parties where a portion of the proceeds will fund scholarships for a local student enrolled in the SUNY-Broome Hospitality Program and another for a student in the Broome/Tioga BOCES Culinary Arts Program. We’d like to keep those students in town as our employees and someday STIR members with their own restaurants. We’re also strong supporters of VINES Volunteers Improving Neighborhood Environments. It’s a great program with urban gardens staffed by local kids with excess produce already being sold to some STIR Affiliates.
We take pride in what we do and strive to make your dining experience the highlight of your day. Please feel free to contact with any questions or suggestions that you may have.
